Overview
Isla Espiritu Santo in the Sea of Cortez, which Jacques Cousteau called the world's aquarium, is a UNESCO biosphere reserve accessible by sea kayak from La Paz. The island's sea lion colony allows snorkelling with California sea lions that approach with playful curiosity, and the underwater landscape mirrors the extraordinary terrestrial scenery of Baja California's desert mountains. Blue-footed boobies, frigate birds, and hammerhead sharks patrol the outer reefs.
