Trek through the high Andean circuit below Ausangate (6,384 m) visiting natural hot spring thermal baths at Pacchanta and Upis — natural pools steaming at 40 degrees within metres of glacial snowfields — with the Andes backdrop of rainbow mountains, alpaca herds, and roaming vicuna. The contrast between soaking in a hot spring and looking at a 6,000 m glacier 2 km away is one of the most surreal experiences in South America. Day hikes from a base camp at Upis allow exploration of the surrounding glacial valleys.
