Overview

Traverse Rondane National Park — Norway's oldest national park, a high plateau of rounded glacially sculpted peaks between 1,600 and 2,178 m — on skis over 3-4 days, staying in Norwegian Trekking Association huts on one of the classic Nordic ski traverses outside the Hardangervidda. Rondane is one of Norway's core wild reindeer ranges — Hardangervidda holds the country's largest herd — and the chance of encountering animals on the open plateau is real. The approach from Otta or Dombas takes 2-3 hours from Oslo by train; the park is more accessible than Svalbard or Hardangervidda equivalents.
