Overview
The Wind River High Route in Wyoming is a 100 km off-trail traverse of the Wind River Range — the most continuous wilderness in the lower 48 states — from Big Sandy Lodge to Elkhart Park, staying above 3,000 m throughout and crossing 10 passes without a maintained trail. Navigation by map and compass, boulder-hopping on persistent talus, and fishing for cutthroat trout in untouched alpine lakes make this the definitive American wilderness experience.
