This is the South Island's greatest hits strung into one two-week push, and the range is the point: sea kayaking beneath the 1,200 m walls of Milford Sound one week, riding the Old Ghost Road — New Zealand's longest singletrack — through earthquake-lifted mountains the next. Between them you walk the Routeburn Track over Harris Saddle, paddle the granite coves of Abel Tasman, and, if the nerve holds, jump from the Kawarau Bridge outside Queenstown, where commercial bungee began. Logistics are the honest challenge: the legs are spread across 800 km of the island, so you need a campervan or a relocation-rental strategy, and Routeburn hut passes sell out within days of the Department of Conservation's release for peak season. November to March gives the long days and the full menu; February and March get the most settled weather. Budget around £3,800 per person including vehicle, activities and hut fees — Queenstown's adrenalin add-ons can double that if you let them.
